There's possibly a better article at https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artur_Virg%C3%ADlio_Alves_dos_Reis. Also note that contains a better picture of him, which is almost surely in the public domain.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.53.225.146 (talk) 02:11, 7 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Preservation of his head

[edit]

How was his head preserved between his execution in 1841 and the discovery of formaldehyde in 1859?Hieronymus Illinensis (talk) 01:17, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

It was not. According to a new book, the head is not actually Diogo Alves'. As I just tried to add to the page, "The head bears no physical resemblance to 1840s lithographs of Alves; the preservation method (formaldehyde) only became common decades later; and the museum lost cataloging data in a 1978 fire. The head may have been confused with a skull once studied by Francisco Ferraz de Macedo—a different object altogether" Fourarmedoctopus (talk) 22:37, 11 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
