Proposal to redirect

[edit]

Proposal to redirect this page to List of Wellington representative cricketers as previously done by User:Rugbyfan22, as the article does not meet WP:NSPORT nor WP:GNG. Frigyes06 (talk) 17:45, 14 December 2023 (UTC) See User:Sammyrice's comment below. Meets notability with new additions. Frigyes06 (talk) 17:36, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

You might want to read Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers/Merger banners. Putting up a talk page notice for an article that will have close to zero page watchers isn't going to cut it. Schwede66 20:42, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's not really a merge, but a proposed redirect. Person who rolled back the redirect advised either talk page or AfD. I personally don't want to take it to AfD, but you can if you want. Frigyes06 (talk) 07:45, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
He was prominent enough in his time to warrant an article of his own. Sammyrice (talk) 01:31, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Could you point out which Notability criteria he meets? I'm genuinely asking, as I might have missed something and I'm just trying to learn :) Frigyes06 (talk) 07:46, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
In the 1903-04 season he was one of the leading batsmen in New Zealand first-class cricket. Which or any of the objective criteria that meets I've no idea, but it leaves me with no doubt as to his Wikipedia notability. Sammyrice (talk) 08:42, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
The additions I have made to his article might explain what I mean. Sammyrice (talk) 09:36, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Okay, yeah. Your edits do make the article better. I think it can stay now. Although I would be interested in seeing this page being renamed to his real name, even though there is another Arthur Staples cricketer. "Dick Staples" just sounds unprofessional. Frigyes06 (talk) 17:34, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Contemporary newspaper reports refer to him as Dick Staples, not Arthur Staples, hence the article name, per WP:COMMONNAME. Paora (talk) 22:11, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
