I've begun this discussion on behalf of Bookworm857158367 (talk · contribs) IAW WP:BRD.

Per MOS:GNL, we're to use gender-neutral language when we can. If Donner flew a plane, we wouldn't call her an aviatrix; if she stood on a nightclub stage and told jokes, we wouldn't call her a comedienne; and if she handed out sachets of peanuts, we wouldn't call her a stewardess. I disagree. …with what? If you disagree with the manual of style, I can't help you, there. If you disagree over what it says, you can click on WP:MOS and read it. If you disagree that actress is gendered and actor is not, I recommend reading the appropriate Wiktionary entry or our own article on gender-neutral language.

Actress is standard and widely used… Frist of all, so too is actor. Secondly, the standards are those listed at policies, guidelines, and manuals across the project. As for being widely used: original research, vandalism, unsourced claims, copyright violations, and more are also widely used and oft to be found on the English Wikipedia, but we nonetheless fix them where found.

I have no idea how the word actor can be self conscious [sic], so I can't speak to that. It's the basic, common, gender-neutral descriptor for 'someone who acts', and it's used just like pilot, comic, and flight attendant: to describe a person's profession without needlessly conflating it with their sex or gender. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 23:56, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
