Me too. A link to a site where the various parts of the device manager (such as "pcmcia adapters") are explained would be appropriate. The Ubik (talk) 15:46, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Hidden Settings Section, Batch and Command Invocation
[edit]I just performed a major edit adding information on how to start the Device Manager in 2000/XP with the command prompt and batch files, and how to use these to use the non-present devices setting. However I am not a frequent wiki editor, so the format needs some work as well as some wording/tone. Additionally, some fact checking need be done on what I said about ANSI and batch files. Non-Present Devices
[edit]The display of non-present devices is very useful, especially with the plethora of COM port devices created every time you plug in a USB device into your PC!
In Vista:
Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings
Click on Environment Variables Button
Create a new System Variable
Variable name: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices Variable value: 1
Close and restart Device Manage, Show Hidden Devices and non-present devices are visible 'greyed out'.
