This article is written in Nigerian English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, realise, travelled, centre) and some terms may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
The legit.ng source says "The actress was born in 1989. She celebrates her birthday on 12 August.", but in its profile summary of Etiko it says "Date of birth: 12 August 1994". I don't think we can trust that source because it doesn't even agree with itself.
The other source for the year 1989 (thecityceleb.com) is an obvious WP:CIRCULAR reference based on data from Wikipedia. It even says in the title that it comes from Wikipedia, so I think we can dismiss that source entirely.
That leaves one source for the year 1994, withinnigeria.com. It looks like a gossip/tabloid-type publications, but I admit I haven't looked at it too closely. What do other editors think about these sources and does anyone know of a more reliable source to use. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 23:24, 26 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Celestina007, it would be helpful if you would list here in this discussion the additional sources for the birth year claims so that they can be evaluated by other editors. When wp:consensus is reached, then at that time it would be appropriate to make edits to the article. Thanks. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 00:20, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
108.56.139.120, until such a time a consensus, if any would be reached, it’s best practice to leave article in its current state rather than what you are doing which you apparently have been warned about observing your talk page . I have linked a source above that states her age. Anyone can always click on it. Furthermore I have shown you two sources with editorial oversight that say she is 31, I’m not sure what else again you want of me. Celestina007 (talk) 00:26, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Celestina007, you state "it’s best practice to leave article in its current state", that is true except for contentious BLP material that is unsourced or poorly sourced (see WP:BLPREMOVE). Since I am questioning the reliability of the sources, I believe I would have been well within policy to say that the contentious material must be removed until consensus has been reached. However, I did not remove the contentious information, but merely tagged it as "disputed" with a link to this talk page discussion because I wanted (and still want) to work collaboratively with fellow editors to discuss and resolve the dispute civilly here on the talk page. To that end, I thank you for adding links below to the sources you found. That is helpful to me and other editors. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 02:47, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Comment — It appears two Nigerian reliable sources with editorial oversight both this & this report definitely that she is 31 in 2020, so the fact that she was born in 1989 shouldn’t be a debate anymore. Celestina007 (talk) 00:39, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm not familiar with either of these two sources.
The ab-tc.com source appears to be more tabloid-ish and I was not able to find anything that spoke to their editorial oversight. So many publications use the same puffery language like the ab-tc.com article that it appears they are all on a feedback loop. I'll note that the ab-tc.com article refers to Etiko's Instagram posts on her birthday, but does not provide a link to any Instagram post. I browsed through her Instagram postings on her birthday and was not able to find any that reported her age, but I welcome others to review them as I might have missed it. Even though a self-published source, if she posted her age or birth year on her Instagram account, that could be used to verify her age/birth year.
The pmnewsnigeria.com source, however, looks much more reliable than any of the others. It also appears on the list of reliable sources at Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Reliable Sources (unlike ab-tc.com, withinnigeria.com, legit.ng, and www.thecityceleb.com, which are not listed there), although I do not know how much scrutiny that list is given. So I'm satisfied at this point that the pmnewsnigeria.com source is sufficient. However, I think the ab-tc.com source should be removed as not reliable and, in this case, not necessary because we now have a reliable source.
Note, too, that the withinnigeria.com source still remains in the article (supposedly verifying other claims) and it says her birth year is 1994. If we accept that the 'msnewsnigeria.com' source is reliable and it reports 1989, then I think that discredits the 'withinnigeria.com' article as a source and it should be removed and not relied upon for any claims (not just about her birth year), absent a published correction by them.
Again, thank you for providing the links to the sources. I am sure that current and future editors who may come across the conflicting published reports in the future about her age/birth year, can now refer to this discussion to help resolve any debate. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 02:47, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
