[edit]Someone needs to add the year that desk accessories first arrived.

screenshot needed
[edit]It would be lovely to have a screenshot of this ancient app. Its UI was cribbed by a lot of different programs, and, IIRC, represents a decent (but flawed) early attempt to model enabling or disabling a big bag of different things at the same time. Adam Di Carlo 17:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Font/DA Mover redirection?
[edit]I was redirected to the Desk Accessory entry when searching for Font/DA Mover... I think considering it was a crucial System utility for so many years, it should have its own entry. I can start a stub but I'm not sure how to make one that has a "/" character in the title and how to remove the redirection. Connectionfailure 03:47, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

- Comment "desk accessory" is pretty generic, since it can refer to a real desk, and not a computer desktop interface. Such as a newton's cradle executive toy, or a stapler... 70.24.248.23 (talk) 09:47, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Are these not just widgets?

- Some 30-odd years later, yes. However, “Desk Accessory” (in capitals) was a very specific technical term related to early versions of the Apple Macintosh operating system (before System 7, as stated in the article).
- Anyway, since the topic has been renamed to “Desk accessory” (see above) and since the article also mentions other widget-like features of other operating systems, the distinction is much less clear: “Widget” might indeed just be a newfangled name for a desk accessory. --~2025-37080-87 (talk) 19:03, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
