I've included a brief explanation of the species' behavioral ecology, highlighting its relevance in forest ecosystems, interactions with other creatures, and the necessity for appropriate management strategies to reduce its negative impact on spruce trees. In addition, I've included a list of credible sources for additional reading and verification of the facts offered in the essay. I've also included some tables and pictures to make reading about this insect more fascinating. I have included in-depth explanations on various areas. Abeer.hreedeen (talk • contribs)

Review
[edit]This is a good article to give you a primer on the characteristics of the great spruce bark beetle, it has plenty of information and is attentive on balancing strategies between conservation of the species will still controlling this pest from causing damage to humans. However, I think there was a lot of information that could've been condensed under a single category with sub-headings within it rather than having separate categories for highly intersecting information. This sometimes made the article hard to read as I first was lead to believe that the beetle didn't have any defining behavioral characteristics but the more I continued to read, the more I stumbled upon 'behavior' related headers. I ended up combining many of them together so they are easier to find and create a better flow of information for the article. I also changed up sentence structure to make it more accessible, and corrected any grammatical mistakes that I caught on to. MidnightBarber (talk) 03:49, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

This article is well‐structured, clearly written and well sourced. However, the lead needs expansion to preview key aspects; more recent research and economic/impact data would strengthen it; additional maps or images could improve completeness. These are fixable within the hold period. Crystalite13 (talk · contribs) 20:21, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

- Many thanks, I'll get to this in the next few days. Chiswick Chap (talk) 01:31, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- Lead:
- Extended.
- Recent research, impact data
- The cited papers extend to 2024 which seems reasonable. The biology and impact of the species are well-known and clearly described in the article. Hard data are, um, hard to come by; the scientific papers and general websites say "significant negative impact" and "significant economic effects" without quoting actual figures, especially worldwide ones.
- Maps, images
- Drawn a map. I've included the best of the images from Commons in the article, and they provide good coverage of the main life-cycle stages and ecology. The other images won't add much to the general picture.
Crystalite13 - all done to date. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:46, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Nice! Very well done addressing all the issues. At this point I see no major issues and am passing this article! Congrats! Crystalite13 (talk) 14:54, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
