"PCA Map"

What is the "Population genomic PCA map" explaining? the two axes of the chart aren't labelled, making it unclear/useless. Is it supposed to be a flat representation of the world? If so, why are the "phillipine negritos" to the west of the han chinese cluster? I am suggesting to delete it, unless someone can explain itFeldercarb (talk) 21:08, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Russia is not Europe

Yeah... no. Russia is partially in Europe, geographically. In fact, it takes up the lion's share of the continent's landmass, about 40%. Most of its population is in Europe, as well. And the rest you've typed is total rubbish, to say the least. Mspriz (talk) 13:04, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

I think that the Asian population of Russia, 41 million, should not be counted in the total number, but I also think that that Kazakhstan's and Turkey's European part (about 13-14 million or so) should be included. But to say that Russian culture is Asian is complete nonsense. Not that there is any "Asian culture" - Iraq and China has nothing significant in common culturally, for example. But Russia is actually very European Slavic culture and has a lot in common with other Slavic countries. Of course, the indigenous populations of the eastern parts of Russia has an originally Asian Culture, as they ARE Asians. They are not ethnic Russians. 217.74.152.67 (talk) 12:09, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Population by Country Table All Switched Up

Somewhere along the road, someone appears to have accidentally switched the "Area" & "Population" column headers in the Population by Country table without switching the data itself. Since then, a few minor edits have been made to try to fix the problem with various countries without actually addressing the underlying issue, leading to a scenario wherein half the countries have the right data, and the other half have it reversed. I will be attempting to try to figure out s specific edit to undo in order the fix this, or otherwise I may end up having to do it manually. Just a heads up.

Oooh, ick. Hadn't noticed. What I did notice is that this recent edit replaced the hard-coded values with templates like {{UN population|Andorra}} & {{country area|Andorra}} which yields:

79,034 & 468

Yes, perhaps you are on to something. I had assumed that the messed up values had to be the result of someone manually trying to fix it after the fact, but it appears as though User:Guarapiranga was responsible for all the associated troubles in their sole edit. I'm really not quite sure what they did, but regardless, I have undone it. I believe I was able to keep your edits, though if they still serve their original purpose only you could say, I suppose. I just wish User:Guarapiranga had been more forthcoming in the intention of their edits and what exactly it was they were editing; if you see this I'd love to know, and I promise you're not in trouble ;). That aside, though, I'd mark this problem as resolved.

Not only you noticed it, JohnFromPinckney, but you thanked me for it, and said it was a Cool conversion of table to use 0 template means section is largely sourced now. Did I mention this is cool?^[1] This is what was there (and what's been reverted to), and this is what I did; what was wrong with it?

Well done for finally getting that sorted out. My only request is that next time you let us know how you're fiddling with the table, so that we can tell what to look at if it goes wrong, as without that info the simplest solution for me was to just revert all your changes, and we don't want all that. Yes, I thanked you, and I thank you again for your work; I still think it's cool. I hadn't noticed any reversal of figures or columns originally, and made only a spot check of some of the numbers; I think I mentally transposed the columns in my mind as I compared versions. When RecycledHeroin wrote here, I was just preparing to sign off for the night, so didn't (want to) take the time to research whatever the problem was, if there really was a problem (turns out it wasn't so big; I was mostly just tired, I think). Now, although some figures (e.g., Armenia pop.) have changed between versions, I don't see anything being grossly out of line. Being able to source and transclude these figures non-repetitively reduces both our workload and the chance of errors. Chonky data table

There is a big table showing nine different indicators for 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Did you read all of those years? If not, you might be in favor of cutting down on the table size. WP:NOTDATABASE indicates that a table should be just as legible and pertinent as plain prose.

I would say the whole thing can go, with some prose replacing it. The paragraphs above it already discuss a couple of landmark years within the prose. Just three years, the beginning, middle and ending years of the century, would probably give enough detail for the reader. Wizmut (talk) 23:46, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

Ethnic groups

On the last line of the "Ethnic group" section it says, "Approximately 20 million non-Europeans live in the EU, 4% of the overall population." I assume this information is taken from this line in the source cited: "23.8 million people (5.3%) of the 446.7 million people living in the EU on 1 January 2022 were non-EU citizens." As you can see, the Wikipedia entry is incorrect. "Non-EU citizens" is not synonymous with "Non-European." This should be fixed or removed. Сулакин (talk) 20:56, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

This is regarding these edits by Satayboi, which I have reverted.

There are several issues.

To start, there was far too much vague and leading language: "Substantial", "detailed", "recent", "notable", "highlighting", "distinct" etc. The use of non-falsifiable language like this fails WP:TONE and WP:NPOV, and introduces editorializing issues.

A related issues is the inclusion and over-reliance of WP:PRIMARY sources.

Several key sentences are unsourced, which suggests WP:OR and WP:SYNTH issues.

Language map

I noticed that the area of Slovakia which is designated as speaking Ukrainian (Rusyn) on the Slovak census is depicting the use of Slovak. I know it’s a small detail but it adds to the accuracy of the map, if anybody could change that I think that would be a good idea.
