Massive Beef-Up

Made the article look presentable to make it look more like a real Wikipedia Article. Any credible edits should be done at all costs, since this is rather an incomplete article. Inappropiate Tone/Unreferenced tags

I marked the Criticisms and Concerns section as inappropriate and unreferenced. The only references cited were bulletin boards, which are not suitable as sources.

Also, statements such as:

• "Dell has no solution to this problem, besides an offer to buy a new Axim."
• "...many users have reported a huge amount of problems..."
• "Wifi support...is problematic at best"
• "Microsoft [rushed] the release of Windows Mobile 5.0, telling manufacturers to complete part of the operating system by themselves"
• "Microsoft's extremely poor implementation of a Bluetooth stack"

are inflammatory, opinionated, and uncited.

Critisms

Forums are not realiable sources, neither are blogs. See WP:V. The lone exception is when a company makes a habit of using official forums to make announcements (and then only the announcement by a verifiable company employee is usable as citation).--Crossmr 03:10, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I agree that forums are not reputable sources - however "user reports that there were issues with XYZ" might be a better avenue rather than deleting these nuanced comments.pinchies (talk) 06:17, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Pricing

-- I think pricing is useful in this article for both a practical perspective as well as a historical reference. Might not be interesting now but in 5 - 10 years, it might be mind boggling that we spent 500 bucks on such a device.

Criticisms and concerns

I've tagged this section for a complete rewrite. I'm not familiar with the whole situation on many of these issues, so I feel I cannot accurate portray these concerns and solutions myself. However the current content is unformatted, unsourced, inaccurate, and generally well below normal Wikipedia quality. camera connected to Axim 51

Has any one conected a camera (back up camera) to their PDA . Used the screen as a monitor? The sony camera has RCA jacks so I would need a conector Any information would be helpfull dtcat@magma.ca

AxDroid

Claim of X5 screen design flaw is incorrect, or at least missing context.

"Many Dell Axim X5 units have issues with the touchscreen failing and a realignment failing as well, even after a hard reset. There is a design flaw inside the unit that causes this. The inside portion of the home button will rub against the touchscreen ribbon cable and eventually wear through the protective coating and ground out the touchscreen. The fix is to take the unit apart and put a very small piece of electrical tape over that portion of the ribbon cable. This requires removing both batteries, clearing all data from the device (similar to a hard reset) and delicate work in taking the unit completely apart."

I have an Axim X5 with a failed touchscreen, and after reading this article I did take it apart in order to try and fix the issue, and I can gladly report that the home button and the digitizer ribbon cable (which is specifically the 4-connector one that runs to the top-layer of the screen assembly) is nowhere near the home button. They are around a half inch apart from each-other, and my unit is a first revision model (A00). It appears the ribbon cable may fatigue simply due to how it is routed making a pair of 90 degree bends in order to connect behind the display. Though I cannot verify that the ribbon IS bad, because my unit has a bad digitizer altogether (its very obviously damaged via visual inspection.)

It is possible there are models which do have this issue, I wasn't able to find any information such as a list of revisions; in-fact I've found scarcely any information about physically repairing the X5, and the sliver of info I did find was wrong. (one guide says you must remove 4 screws to undo the back when there are in-fact 6.)

Anyway, because I don't have all the information, I'm not making a change to the paragraph; however it should have a citation. I will add a citation needed tag to the paragraph.

If anyone knows more about the repair of these devices and where this paragraphs information may have originally come from, please do tell.

Also, just as a sanity check, I did test the unit with the front cover plate (which includes the buttons) removed, and the touchscreen did not begin working. it is very clearly not being grounded out by any buttons, and I have my doubts that such a flaw is possible with the way my unit appears to be designed. Our own experience is not a reliable source for Wikipedia. However, placing a citation needed tag was fully justified here, so good work. This article needs sources for most of its content, if you have time and desire to improve it (or even rewrite it), feel free to do it. Pavlor (talk) 05:04, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

I uhh just looked at the PDA again, and I was reading the wrong sticker when I thought the whole thing was revision A00. The screen is A00, but the PDA is A05, so there's every chance that this flaw did exist and mine was made after it was discovered and rectified. Which is kind of embarrassing. It doesn't entirely invalidate my post, and it definitely doesn't invalidate the need for a citation, but I should have paid more attention. Moomoobeef (talk) 06:46, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
