Kodaly Solo Cello Sonata premiere?

This ref says that George Neikrug played Kodaly's Solo Cello Sonata in New York in 1947, being the first time it had been performed anywhere in the USA "for many years". Soyer was aged only 24 in 1947, and "many years" earlier would have made him too early to be making such a premiere. It looks like Soyer's essay was after Neikrug's, and thus could not have been the New York premiere as claimed in the article.
