– I have drafted this WP:PRIMARY TOPIC article to replace the current largely WP:DABCONCEPT disambiguation page. The container, conceptually, is one of the most important inventions in all of human history, making it possible to store and transport food. This is up there with fire and the wheel. Containers are ubiquitous, but so ingrained in our in our lives that we barely notice or think of their importance. This article addresses the need for recognition of the basic concept. Since there are a few meanings of "container" that are unrelated to physical objects made for containing other physical objects, the disambiguation page will continue to exist at the "(disambiguation)" title. bd2412 T 20:14, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Fgnievinski, this has been open for about a month now without objection, you should be good to carry out a WP:BOLDMERGE if this is something you're still interested in. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 18:07, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Shipping containers are very different things from jars, boxes and so on. And there are separate Wikipedia articles on jar, box, etc, with no proposals that they should be merged here. The amount of material on shipping containers in this article is excessive in my view—a few sentences and a link would be sufficient. Most of the overlapping material should be deleted from here. The only explanation for wanting to merge Shipping container here, is the use of the word container. If we talked about glass containers and wooden containers instead of jars and boxes, I suppose they would be merged, and with more justification. This article would best take the form of a brief summary of the topic, with links to articles on the various types of container. ~2026-28513-5 (talk) 13:02, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
