Colonial Conservation Efforts

The History section does not address the original need for conservation initiatives or early colonial conservation efforts. I want to add information about colonial resource extraction which originally caused environmental degradation in Belize, calling for conservation efforts. I also want to add information on colonial conservation efforts such as land policies that focused on limiting overexploitation, but with an emphasis on how these colonial conservation efforts reinforced colonial powers while further marginalizing Indigenous communities. This is relevant and important to this section because it will explain the roots of environmental challenges faced in Belize and highlight how colonial legacies are embedded in conservation efforts.
