This article could do with:

Mentioning when Wayland superseded Composite (i.e. when the main distros switched or when gnome/kde switched),
Explain what functionality Composite enabled that wasn’t readily achievable previously (transparent terminal windows, rounded window shapes, 3D transition effects, etc).
Convey some measure of how widespread the peak adoption of Composite was.
