I'd like to use this page as a test case. At the bottom, we have a number of links to manufacturers' websites. I believe that this is nothing more than free advertising for them: this is what a combination machine is, and if you'd like to buy one, follow these links. The help section on external links says under what not to link: "Links that are added to promote a site, that primarily exist to sell products or services, with objectionable amounts of advertising, or that require payment to view the relevant content, colloquially known as external link spamming." I believe that this supports removing of these links from an article.

On the other hand, I can see an argument that a person who does not know what a combo machine is might actually learn something about them by visiting these sites. I think that can be countered by improving the article so that they do not need to. What do others think? I removed some similar links from the Panel saw article for the same reason but thought I should get a bit of discussion going on it. SilentC 22:47, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

• I agree with you. Links to commercial sites should be only directly to pages that provide general information about the machine or on the history of the machine (e.g. Dewalt history on Radial arm saws. Luigizanasi 20:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
