I removed this sentence:

According to Gordon Lynch, Partridge is a leading scholar of topics in popular culture.^[1]

It's unclear what the claim is here and I don't have access to the full text of the original article to check. If the claim is that he's a leading scholar of religious topics in popular culture and that word was just omitted, we need to say that.
