" Chamicuro has 4 vowels: /a, e, i, o, u/."

[edit]

Should this be corrected to either say "5 vowels" or only list 4?--205.172.21.143 (talk) 20:16, 17 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not extinct according to UNESCO Atlas

[edit]

Thought I'd leave a note that the UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages In Danger lists Chamicuro as critically endangered but not extinct as of 2010. I don't know enough to resolve the conflicting information (maybe they're counting it with Aguano?) but perhaps someone else can. Botterweg14 (talk) 21:03, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Our oldest attestation of extinction is from 2019, and our prior ref from 2011 showed 8 speakers, so that makes sense. Evidently went extinct in the early 2000s, but the data in the Atlas can't be expected to be current as of its publication date. — kwami (talk) 22:05, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
