Cavco Industries

Cavco Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: CVCO) is an American manufacturer of factory-built housing, including manufactured homes, modular homes, park model recreational vehicles, vacation cabins and commercial structures. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the company operates manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico and distributes homes through independent retailers, company-owned retail centers, planned-community operators and residential developers in the U.S. and in parts of Canada. Through subsidiaries, Cavco also provides mortgage lending and property and casualty insurance. As of fiscal year 2026, it employed approximately 8,000 people.1 Cavco traces its origins to 1965. The company became an independent publicly traded corporation in 2003 after its separation from Centex and subsequently expanded through acquisitions, including Fleetwood Homes, Palm Harbor Homes, Commodore Corporation, Solitaire Homes and American Homestar Corporation. In 2025, Cavco consolidated its legacy manufacturing brands under the Cavco name, followed in 2026 by a standardized national product-line structure.1,2,3,4,5,6

History

Origins and early development

Cavco got its start in 1965, when Al Ghelfi founded Roadrunner Manufacturing Company in Phoenix, Arizona. The business initially produced truck campers before shifting to factory-built housing after the 1973 oil crisis raised gasoline prices, reducing the demand for vacation truck campers. After acquiring his business partner’s interest, Ghelfi renamed the company Cavco Industries in 1974. During the late 1970s and 1980s, Cavco expanded in the southwestern United States and diversified into producing relocatable commercial structures.2

Centex ownership and public-company separation

Centex acquired Cavco in December 1996 as part of an expansion into manufactured housing. During this period, Cavco expanded its retail operations, including the acquisition of AAA Homes in 1998. Following a prolonged downturn in the manufactured housing industry, Centex separated Cavco as an independent public company on June 30, 2003. Cavco’s common stock began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol CVCO.1,3

Expansion through acquisitions

After becoming independent, Cavco expanded through acquisitions. These acquisitions included Fleetwood Homes in 2009, Palm Harbor Homes in 2011, Commodore Corporation in 2021, Solitaire Homes in 2023 and American Homestar Corporation in 2025. The American Homestar transaction added two manufacturing facilities, 19 retail locations and limited mortgage and insurance operations in the south-central United States.1,4,7,8 During its 60th anniversary year in 2025, Cavco consolidated numerous legacy manufacturing brands under the Cavco name. In 2026, Cavco introduced six standardized national product lines intended to organize its housing portfolio while preserving regionally produced floor plans.2,5,6

Operations

Cavco’s principal business is the design, manufacture and retail sale of factory-built housing. Homes are distributed through independent retailers, company-owned stores, planned-community operators and residential developers. The company reports two operating segments: Factory-Built Housing and Financial Services.1 The Factory-Built Housing segment includes the wholesale manufacture and retail sale of manufactured homes, modular homes, park model recreational vehicles, vacation cabins and factory-built commercial structures. Cavco uses assembly-line production in which floor sections or modules move through staged construction processes in climate-controlled facilities.1

Products and brands

Cavco manufactures manufactured and modular homes, park model recreational vehicles, vacation cabins and commercial structures. Following the company’s manufacturing-brand consolidation, its housing portfolio was reorganized in 2026 into six national product lines: Halo, Banner, Ovation, Reserve, Discovery and Signature.1,5,6

· Halo – value-oriented manufactured homes

· Banner – family-focused manufactured homes

· Ovation – mid-range manufactured homes

· Reserve – premium manufactured homes

· Discovery – modular homes

· Signature – premium modular homes6

The product-line restructuring was presented to provide consistent categories for retailers and consumers while retaining regional plans and manufacturing practices at individual facilities.6

Notable product development

In December 2023, Cavco introduced the Anthem duplex series, the first nationally available U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development- (HUD-) approved manufactured-housing duplex series. The series was designed to provide two dwelling units within a manufactured housing structure, subject to federal, state and local requirements.2

Financial services

Cavco’s Financial Services segment provides mortgage lending and property and casualty insurance associated with factory-built housing. The segment is reported separately from the Factory-Built Housing segment.1 Mortgage lending is conducted primarily through CountryPlace Mortgage. CountryPlace originates, sells and services residential mortgage loans for factory-built homes. It is an approved Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac seller and servicer and a Ginnie Mae mortgage-backed-securities issuer. Its lending products include conforming mortgages, nonconforming mortgages and home-only loans.1

Property and casualty insurance is provided through Standard Casualty Company, which primarily insures manufactured homes and is based in New Braunfels, Texas. Cavco also identifies Cedarbrook Insurance Group as an affiliated insurance agency offering personal insurance products, including home, auto, renters and manufactured-home coverage.1,9,10,11

Awards and recognition

In 2022, Cavco received the Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI’s) inaugural Community Impact Project of the Year Award for its participation in the Five Points Neighborhood Initiative, a workforce-housing redevelopment project in Martinsville, Virginia.12

In 2024, Cavco ranked 83rd in Training magazine’s Training APEX Awards, which recognize employer-sponsored workforce training and development programs.14

In 2025, MHInsider presented Cavco president and chief executive officer William C. Boor with its Advocacy Award for industry outreach and public-policy advocacy.15

In 2026, Forbes included Cavco in its America’s Most Successful Small-Cap Companies ranking.13

Also in 2026, the Manufactured Housing Institute recognized two Cavco designs in its Excellence in Manufactured Housing Awards. The Cabana Serenity received the Manufactured Home Design – Single Section award and the Luxus received the Modular Housing Design Award.16,17

Business Insider and Plant-A Insights included Cavco in their America’s High-Growth Companies 2026 ranking.18
