Is this the same thing as a photographic catadioptric lens? If so, a merge is in order.--Srleffler 00:45, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Depends on what is termed "the same thing". A Catadioptric sensor is a Fisheye lens lens created by aiming a normal (dioptric) lens at a convex mirror (a catoptric device) making the combination "Catadioptric". The photographic catadioptric lens described at Catadioptrics is a telephoto lens using a combination of lens and mirrors usually in a cassegrain design. So a Catadioptric sensor is a "Photographic catadioptric lenses" but not the same design or use as the one in Catadioptrics. Could be merged in "Catadioptrics" under its own heading. Or Catadioptrics could be divested of all its design variants so it becomes a simple explanation of the term similar to Dioptrics and Catoptrics (to fulfill my love of symmetry) -- and all these variations could become their own articles.
