Factual and maintenance corrections
[edit]| The user below has a request that an edit be made to Carol Alexander. That user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. Summary of request: Correct five factual or unsupported statements in the article The requested edits backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient. There are currently 640 requests waiting for review. Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies. |
Conflict of interest disclosure: I am Carol Alexander, the subject of this article. I am therefore requesting these changes on the Talk page rather than editing the article directly.
I am requesting five limited factual or maintenance changes. I am not proposing a broader rewrite of the article in this request.
1. Correct the dates as Head of Business and Management
Please change the dates for my service as Head of Business and Management from 2013–2015 to 2013–2014.
The Social Science Encyclopedia source already cited in the article lists the position as 2013–2014:
https://www.socialscience.international/carol-alexander
2. Remove the incorrect statement about the transition to the Sussex Business School
Please remove the words "during which time the department transitioned to the Sussex Business School" from the Career section.
The University of Sussex Business School's own history states that the School was established in 2009 and that the name "University of Sussex Business School" and the new departmental structure were adopted in 2018, not during 2013–2014:
https://www.sussex.ac.uk/business-school/about/history
After changes 1 and 2, I suggest that the relevant sentence should read:
In 2012 she rejoined the University of Sussex as Professor of Finance and served as Head of Business and Management between 2013 and 2014.
3. Correct the Journal of Banking & Finance editorship
Please replace the present sentence beginning "Since 2013..." with:
Alexander was an editor of the Journal of Banking & Finance from 2013 to 2022.
A University of Sussex news item dated 11 October 2022 states that Alexander had edited the journal since 2013 and would step down after ten years at the end of 2022:

Suggested citation:
"Professor Carol Alexander named one of Wall Street's top 10 Women Quants". University of Sussex. 11 October 2022. Retrieved 10 August 2026.
4. Correct the misleading early-career chronology
Please replace the first sentence of the Career section with:
Alexander was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Amsterdam from 1981 to 1982. She became a lecturer in mathematics and economics at the University of Sussex in 1985.
The existing wording gives the impression that the Sussex lectureship followed immediately after the Amsterdam postdoctoral fellowship. The Social Science Encyclopedia source already cited in the article records a postdoctoral fellowship at Amsterdam in 1981–1982, a position as a bond analyst at UBS Phillips & Drew in 1982–1983, a part-time teaching and research position at the London School of Economics in 1983–1985, and the Sussex lectureship beginning in 1985:

I am not requesting the addition of those intervening positions in this edit request; they can be considered separately as part of a later revision of the Career section.
5. Remove unsupported evaluative wording from the lead
Please remove the words "which is widely cited in the field" from the final sentence of the lead. The statement is currently unsupported and is evaluative rather than necessary to identify the work.
The resulting sentence would read:
She is the author of the four-volume textbook Market Risk Analysis (2008).
Thank you for considering these factual and maintenance corrections. Alexocarol (talk) 15:29, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
