Both Ord-Hume and Flight (18 March 1937) state 40 hp, a plausible figure. Ellison says 10 hp, which seems too little to fly; I suspect, given that it originated as a car engine, this number may be a tax horsepower, commonly used in the UK pre-war.TSRL (talk) 10:40, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lumsden makes it all clear: the engine was developed from the Ford 10 car engine (the 10 in this context always meant 10 tax hp) into the 31 hp Carden-Ford aircraft engine and further developed with supercharging and a small up-gearing into the 40 hp Carden-Ford S.P.1, used only in the Bee.TSRL (talk) 17:45, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
