There seems to be some confusion in the naming of CAPREOL. This place was a divisional point for the Canadian Northern Railway, (CNoR). The railway terminal was named for the township in which it is located. Had the railway company decided to build its terminal only a half mile to the north, then the place quite likely would have been named NORMAN. The Township of Capreol was so named, in the early 1900's by the Province of Ontario, for Frederick Chase Capreol, the original promoter of the Northern Railway of Canada, with little thought given to the fact that some day a railway station or even a major rail terminal would be located there. The Northern Railway, was a predecssor of the Grand Trunk, between Toronto and North Bay, and a competitor to the Canadian Northern.
