Part Two missing
[edit]The synopsis on the article only gets to the conclusion of Part One. Part Two includes 28 more chapters. 93.44.139.81 (talk) 21:22, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
Alphaville (1965) as a derivative work?
[edit]Maybe too broad, but clear allusions regarding ‘cause and effect’ 80.193.205.95 (talk) 21:39, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
US pronunciation?
[edit]I was born in the US Pacific Northwest and I've lived in Texas for the last half of my life. I admit that I'm not a frequent reader of Voltaire or philosophy in general. I've invariably heard "Candide" pronounced in English as /kæn.did/ ("can-deed"), with equal emphasis on the first or second syllable -- not /kɒnˈdiːd/ ("kon-DEED"), which would definitely be more accurate to the original French. What do you think, fellow Wikipedians (especially those with any North American accent) -- is that a legitimate regionalism (US, Northwestern, West Coast, or otherwise)... or just ignorance? Either option is certainly possible, which is why I ask. Mr Responsible (talk) 17:39, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
- It may be better to rely on the dictionaries. However, Longman, which we cite, gives /kɑːnˈdiːd/ as alternative, so we should probably include that one too. Gawaon (talk) 20:13, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
- I have now added that alternative. Gawaon (talk) 10:54, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
