Contested deletion

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because I will remove the few sections that are supported by Biotium's own internal information and leave only information that is supported by peer-reviewed third-party publications. I also see a few areas where the wording will be changed to sound less promotional. What will be left will be focused entirely on the chemistry and nature of the CF dyes themselves --Jonibologni (talk) 01:27, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because I have now changed it extensively to remove anything that would normally seem promotional. Along with changing the tone throughout to focus on the chemistry and a cursory history of publications regarding uses of the dyes, I also made these changes:

Removed entirely:

All biotium.com citations and related text (the CF Dye Brochure, CF Dye Selection Guide, Technical Staff overview, and company blog post).

The "Clear Fluor" name-origin sentence — its only source was the Biotium blog.

The claim that CF790 has "reduced non-specific binding compared to Alexa Fluor 790"

The ® trademark symbol from the article title and sevreal uses of trademark symbols in the text

The bold "Technical specifications" subheader

Reworded for neutrality:

"proprietary" removed from the lede

GelRed/GelGreen description no longer states they are "safer for users than other common options". This section was also generally pared down to be much shorter.

Quantitative claims about water solubility (">100 mg/mL") and net charge comparisons ("1–2 vs. 3–6") that were only sourced to the Biotium selection guide were removed; DOL value claims (4–10 without quenching) were removed for the same reason.

The table introduction now explicitly attributes data to the patent and peer-reviewed literature

I accepted the article but I still feel it is just a little promotional toward Biotium, particularly in the "history and development" section. This is a fixable problem and could be handled with light editing. For example, the "founded in 2001 in Fremont, California" part is unnecessary and unrelated to the article subject, so it can go. I also think collaborators without WP articles don't need to be mentioned by name, as this reads as a little name drop-y, to me at least. Overall, however, this is in the top 10% of articles I have reviewed at AfC. I didn't see the earlier versions. WeirdNAnnoyed (talk) 11:48, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Having seen the a couple of the past versions this version is definitely on the better side of the promotional text. I've made a couple of edits to bring it in line with MOS:TMRULES and to remove pretty much all but one reference to Biotium. netstars22 (talk) 00:10, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
