The first 386-based PC
[edit]I'll update the page when I have a chance to locate and cite sources, but ALR shipped a 386-based PC roughly two months before Compaq. Compaq was the first large manufacturer to ship a 386, but they were NOT the first. Oregonerik (talk) 10:24, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- I found ads where they claimed to have "introduced" the first PCand special edition of DESQview.
- September 1, 1986 – they hoped to beat the competition by getting their machine out by October.
- October 20 – Compaq "announced" a system last month. Meanwhile, a handful of other companies, such as Corvus and ALR have already introduced systems.
- Nov. 17 – Pick OS is currently being tested on Compaq's and ALR's 386 machines.
- At fall COMDEX, ALR, like Compaq, was already shipping 386-based products.
- Given that Phoenix shipped their 386 BIOS to 15 manufacturers and Award to 6 OEMs, I don't think anyone could have shipped 2 mos. before the rest. I can't find any confirmation of this "first" other than in ALR's own advertising. Wbm1058 (talk) 03:16, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
