David or Davis Burnside?

New wweek article says the street was named after DAVIS Burnside. The city article says DAVID. This ref, which leads to this 1921 O snippet, which says "Davis W." Burnside lived 1825-1887 and was born in Vermont. That means this is his grave, where he's listed as DANIEL WYMAN. This blog post at least has some decent research and mentions his wife.

Note Mr. Burnside had a son, DAVIS WALTER, who went by the nickname DAVID. And he married a woman whose maiden name was DAVIS. Which makes the whole thing extra-confusing. I think I'll go look up "Portland Names And Neighborhoods" in an hour when the library opens and see what Snyder actually says. tedder (talk) 16:11, 3 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Viewed (and scanned) the Snyder pages. There's no mention of DANIEL, but it's fairly clear that DAVIS wasn't a family name until he married Jane Davis (e.g., so his son was DAVIS, he was DAVID). The real question is, can findagrave be used to call him "Daniel W 'David' Burnside" without sourcing and synthesis issues? tedder (talk) 18:24, 3 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
