COI edit request: update and expansion of biography

Conflict-of-interest disclosure: I am Bryan Posthumus, the subject of this article. Because I have a conflict of interest, I am not making these substantive edits directly. I am requesting that an uninvolved editor review the specific changes below and make whatever changes are appropriate under Wikipedia's policies, particularly WP:BLP and WP:COI. I am not requesting removal of properly sourced unfavorable material.

I have tried to make each request specific and to provide exact proposed replacement or insertion text.

Request 1: Correct the current leadership title in the infobox

The infobox currently identifies the office as "Majority Leader of the Michigan House of Representatives."

Please change:

Majority Leader of the Michigan House of Representatives

to:

Majority Floor Leader of the Michigan House of Representatives

The Michigan House's official leadership directory identifies the position as Majority Floor Leader, as does the Michigan Legislature's historical database for the 2025–2026 session.

Request 2: Update the lead to reflect current legislative leadership

The current lead reads:

"Bryan Richard Posthumus (born October 26, 1984) is an American politician serving as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from the 90th district. Elected in 2020, he assumed office on January 1, 2021."

Please replace that paragraph with:

"Bryan Richard Posthumus (born October 26, 1984) is an American politician serving as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. A Republican, he was first elected in 2020 and has served in the House since 2021, representing the 73rd district from 2021 to 2022 and the 90th district since 2023. He served as Republican Floor Leader during the 2023–2024 legislative session and became Majority Floor Leader for the 2025–2026 session."

Michigan Public independently reported in November 2024 that I was then House Minority Floor Leader and had been selected to become Majority Floor Leader. The official House and legislative records confirm the current office.

Request 3: Update and expand the Career section

The first paragraph of the Career section currently begins:

"Posthumus is a fourth-generation farmer, and the co-owner of West Michigan Hopyards."

I request that the Career section be updated to reflect the more recent sources concerning my agricultural/business background and legislative leadership.

Please replace the first two paragraphs of the existing Career section (beginning "Posthumus is a fourth-generation farmer..." and ending with the sentence concerning election to the House in 2020) with:

"Posthumus earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business Management from Michigan State University. Before entering the Legislature, he worked in agriculture, consulting, business development, and sales. He became managing partner of West Michigan Hopyards in 2013 and served as CEO of the consulting firm Tuebor Strategies. Michigan State University describes Posthumus as a fifth-generation farmer."

"Posthumus was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2020 and took office in January 2021 representing the 73rd district. Following redistricting, he was elected to represent the 90th district in 2022 and was reelected in 2024. During the 2023–2024 legislative session, he served as Republican Floor Leader. After Republicans regained control of the House in the 2024 election, he was selected as Majority Floor Leader for the 2025–2026 session."

Regarding the generational description: the article currently says "fourth-generation farmer." Michigan State University's current Spartan Caucus profile describes Posthumus as a "fifth-generation farmer." I recognize that an older source cited by the article used "fourth-generation," so I am asking editors to evaluate the newer source rather than presenting this as an uncontested correction.

Request 4: Add independently reported cryptocurrency and blockchain legislative activity

I request insertion of the following subsection at the end of the Career section, after the paragraph covering the 2024 reelection:

Cryptocurrency and blockchain legislation

"In 2025, Posthumus introduced a series of proposals concerning cryptocurrency and blockchain activity in Michigan. In February, FOX 17 reported that Posthumus drafted three bills that would allow state officials to invest in cryptocurrency, expand cryptocurrency mining at industrially zoned properties, and establish a Michigan-branded digital asset whose value would be tied to gold and silver."

"In May 2025, Posthumus participated in a bipartisan four-bill digital-assets package. Michigan Public reported that one proposal, described as a 'Cryptocurrency Bill of Rights,' would restrict state and local governments from prohibiting or imposing additional requirements on the ownership and use of digital assets. Other measures in the package addressed state investment in cryptocurrencies and the use of abandoned state-owned oil and natural-gas wells for Bitcoin mining, with participating miners responsible for remediation. Posthumus said the package was intended in part to attract cryptocurrency-related economic activity to Michigan."

I have intentionally limited this proposed subsection to statements supported by independent news coverage. I am not asking the article to characterize me as a "blockchain expert" or as the "architect" of a broader cryptocurrency strategy without independent sourcing supporting such a characterization.

Summary

These requests are intended to:

1. correct the current leadership title in the infobox;
2. update the lead through the current legislative session;
3. update the Career section with current biographical and leadership information; and
4. add a concise account of independently reported cryptocurrency and blockchain legislative activity.

I am not requesting deletion or alteration of the article's existing properly sourced material concerning my personal or legal history.

@BPosthumus: I've just addressed most of these concerns. As per Request 1, you're correct that the title seems to officially be "Majority Floor Leader", it seems every other article so far as listed Majority Floor Leaders as "Majority Leader". Wikipedia does not always use official terminology if the common usage differs from it. That being said, a cursory glance at news articles does seem to indicate "Majority Floor Leader" is in common usage as well. I'll look into this a little more before I change this and potentially other articles.

Request 2 has been fulfilled almost word for word. It's an uncontroversial change. I've also updated the body of the article to reflect that introduction article.

Request 3 has been mostly changed. There's no need to put the education sentence in the Career section, as this information is already in "Early life and education". I did not use your exact wording, but I did include the information. I also rearranged the information to reflect more closely the chronology of events.

Request 4 was fulfilled in part. I did not include information about the first part, because the source provided is Fox News. There is general consensus against using Fox News as a reliable source in regard to politics. I was unable to find another, more appropriate source talking about the bill. The other section, about the four-bill package, I did add. Again, I rewrote it to fit better with the Wikipedia style of things. RoundSquare (talk) 16:35, 19 August 2026 (UTC)
