Genre

Should crossover thrash be their lead genre? It’s kind of specific. ~SML • TP 22:54, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

AllMusic says "urban speed metal" and "heavy metal". Time says heavy metal, while EW says the band is "hardcore rock" (whatever that is) and the album is heavy metal. So I think heavy metal should be the lead genre. The band's style is specifically described in heavy metal tropes. Binksternet (talk) 15:21, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Milan riot

I've put a warning into the section on the Milan riot. It relies entirely on Ice-T's book. It's never good practice on Wikipedia to rely on one source, but this is particularly problematic when it was someone directly involved and likely to have some level of bias. I have read his account and I notice that there's no statement of what happened to that fan who he "clocked in the fucking nose". I have doubts that this riot was as big as made out in the book, as I had never heard about it before Ice-T published his book. He says that it was all over the Italian media at the time. I can understand that most English speakers in 1993 didn't follow the Italian media, but is there no trace that we can find of it now? Are there any online archives of Italian media that we can use, perhaps combined with Google Translate, to find other sources to go with this? If we can, we ought to use those sources to put another perspective in that section. Just in the interests of searching around a likely timeframe, I've found one source for a Body Count gig in Milan on 22nd November 1993. – Clear WP:PT1 with 500+ daily clicks; the only other article at the dabpage which receives significant traffic is the self-titled Body Count (album). This group has been making music for 30+ years, so long-term notability is established as well. Hmm, the problem is that Body count (disambiguation) and Body Count are merged together, so we can't fully discern things from WikiNav at the current Body Count list, as the meta:Research:Wikipedia clickstream software doesn't compartmentalize the source view by incoming redirect.

But even then, in February we could identify only 91 clicks to the band link, compared to... 2789 views of the list.

I think the problem is the formatting of Body count (slang) that isn't very compatible without disambiguation guidelines, but does seem to be aligned with reader interests. We also have sufficient acrimony at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Body Count (sexual partners) to confirm that as well.

The ambiguity between these two generic meanings, military and slang, was previously resolved at the military topic by having a hatnote and a section for that. However, it seems that a fair few of these readers didn't see a section for that, and got dumped into the primarily "Body Count" list. This may indicate that leaving the military meaning as a primary topic is a bad idea. --Joy (talk) 08:13, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

One more curiosity - a longer view of pageviews shows there was a huge increase in interest in the term "Body Count" between late 2022 and mid 2024, which is still dissipating it seems. The only thing the band article mentions about this period is anticipation about an album, which then materialized in late 2024, but the readership patterns at the band article at the time doesn't support the idea that the traffic was about that. If we look at mass views for that period here, it's hard to see what these readers were really after. In 2017, it might have been the band or the 20/20 Experience, but later the patterns don't really match. --Joy (talk) 08:31, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
