Split proposal - calendrical/traditional vs atmospheric

Most of this article is about traditional blue moons, with some mentions and one section on a literal, visibly blue moon.

I propose that we split any info about atmospheric blue moons into a separate article. This could be titled "Atmospheric blue moon", but I'm not sure if that's the most appropriate term for the phenomenon. Antrikshy (talk) 00:25, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

"The calendrical meaning of "blue moon" is unconnected to the other meanings. It is often referred to as "traditional", but since no occurrences are known prior to 1937..."

The above phrase is currently in the lead and needs to be fixed. I initially read "no occurrences are known prior to 1937" to mean that there were no known occurrences of two full moons in a calendar month prior to 1037, which obviously makes no sense. I imagine this should be changed to something like "there were no known occurrences of this usage prior to 1937..." but this would seem to contradict the next sentence which says this usage originated in 1946. I don't know the subject and don't want to edit this for fear of inserting an error (while on the main page!), but hopefully someone who does can sort this out.
