Not sure why the introduction of HDTV in the US would cause spectrum crowding - ATSC digital broadcasts use the same amount of spectrum (6 MHz) as the old NTSC broadcasts, and use it more efficiently. Additionally, the switch to ATSC causes VHF channels 2-4 to be discontinued, and reassigned higher UHF band channels above 51 to other purposes. Was the author referring to the use of so-called whitespace equipment? Even there, the equipment is supposed to be redesigned to avoid interference when possible, making better/more efficient use of spectrum... 67.249.229.237 (talk) 02:18, 25 October 2011 (UTC) Andrew BlackburnReply
