Completely agreed with you, the sentence does not make any sense. The word is clearly Turkic and is feminine of [[Bey]] (also Beg and Beigh). Also look The Free Dictionary . --Mehrdad 15:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the United Kingdom, Begum has been increasingly used as a religious slur against headscarf-wearing Muslim women. It became associated with devout Islam and the practice of wearing the veil through the court case of Shabina Begum. ^{[citation needed]}
