no mention of sex?
[edit]I was surprised that throughout the whole article there isn't any mention of sex. Like it or not, it's one of the primary uses of beds, after only sleeping. Considering that the sexual intercourse article does not mention beds either, how would an outsider (Alien?) reading wikipedia determine where we perform the deed? - Huh? There's no mention of breakfast in bed either....or reading in bed....even if you spend an hour having sex everyday in bed, you're still likely to spend 8x as much time sleeping in it - and it probably spends 12 - 16 hours a day empty. So, by your logic, the single most important use of a bed is to sit by itself with no one in it (sleeping, reading, eating, or, yes, even having intercourse) - hey, why isn't a majority of this article discussing that beds spend most of the time not being used at all? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.164.201 (talk) 01:51, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- It's hard not to laugh, but I was surprised by this as well, given, well, how conventional this use of the bed is in Western culture, and given what it does mention as the use of beds! It's even being glossed over in the classical references to the marriage bed. Not really sure what to suggest, though: the mind boggles... I don't think it is really on a par with breakfast or reading as these things are more usually done in other places, and only occasionally in beds. FloweringOctopus (talk) 16:53, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
Beds
[edit]Shouldn't you at least have where they first where made? This article needs some help, but it's good so far ---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.31.25.8 (talk) 22:35, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Merge Proposal - Headboard
[edit]I propose merging Headboard into Bed. There is substantial overlap in the topic, given a headboard is simply part of the bed. The current headboard article is also extremely short. It also seems unlikely to be expanded, given how narrow a topic it is.
Merging headboard into this article would resolve these issues with the current headboard article, and add relevant details missing from the current bed article. MrTaxes (talk) 17:51, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
Suggestion to add recent utility patents to type of Beds
[edit]Suggestion to add recent utility patents to history/timeline
[edit]Hello. I am the inventor and holder of two recent USPTO utility patents regarding adjustable bed mechanisms. To keep the timeline and history of adjustable bed technology up to date, I would like to propose adding a brief mention of recent lateral positioning innovations.
Because I have a Conflict of Interest (COI) as the patent holder, I am submitting this request here for an independent editor to review and add rather than editing the main page myself.
Proposed text to add to the modern history section: In the 2020s, adjustable bed technology expanded beyond standard head- and foot-elevation to incorporate active lateral positioning mechanisms, allowing the sleep surface to shift sideways to assist with user positioning.[1][2]
Thank you to any editor who can review and implement this! ~2026-35594-18 (talk) 13:28, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
