History of Barlig Mountain Province

DID YOU KNOW THIS PART OF THE HISTORY OF BARLIG?

In The 1960s, While Working As Part Of The Legislative Staff Of Congressman Juan Duyan, The Late Antonio S. Llopis Sr. Quietly Helped Prepare The Legislation That Would Later Become Republic Act No. 4739.

This Law, Approved On June 18, 1966 By President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Transferred The Barrios Of Kaleo And Kadaclan (Chupac) And Officially Converted Barlig From A Municipal District Into A Regular Municipality.

For Many Years, This Contribution Remained Unknown To Many Barligians. Yet It Was One Of The Important Steps That Helped Shape The Barlig We Know Today. Sometimes The People Who Build History Work Quietly Behind The Scenes, Not For Recognition, But For The Future Of Their Community.

History Like This Deserves To Be Remembered And Shared.

A RESOLUTION ADOPTING AND DECLARING THE LATE ANTONIO S. LLOPIS SR. AS THE "FATHER OF MUNICIPALITY OF BARLIG MOUNTAIN PROVINCE".

WHEREAS, unknown to many Barligians during the 1960’s, the late Antonio S. Llopis Sr. while under the employ of the late Congressman Hon. Juan Duyan, as one of his Legislative Staff, he silently and painstakingly worked on the preparation of RA No. 4739 and caused its passage by congress on June 1, 1966 and its eventual approval by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on June 18, 1966, converting the Municipal District of Barlig into a Regular Municipality, after transferring the barrios of Chupac and Kaleo from the Municipality of Natonin to be made part of the new Regular Municipality of Barlig;

WHEREAS, this act is a recognition of a legacy left by an unselfish man, almost to be forgotten by his very own people whom he loved so much, and whose vision was not for himself but for all of us and all Barligians’ generation to come. The beginning of greatness should all of us emulate and continue such visionary and noble act, translating and concretizing them into beneficial communal development and services;

WHEREFORE, on motion duly seconded, be it THEREFORE

RESOLVED, to forward this resolution to the Office of the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Donald S. Alubia, for appropriate action.

CARRIED this 11th day of June 2004. This Story Was Told By Glenn Ma Aray, A Barber Who Lived In Loc Ong, Bontoc, Originally From Kadaclan, Barlig Mountain Province, Near The BFP, Who Sadly Passed Away Around December Of 2022 (Or 2023).

In The Past, There Was A Boundary Dispute Between The Municipality Of Natonin And Barlig. Representatives From Both Municipalities Met At The Boundary In Porag To Address The Issue.

Natonin Chose Their Bravest Warrior, // “Marong-Ag” (A Skilled Fighter And Headhunter Who Killed, To Bring Honor To Their Tribe) To Represent Them. At First, Barlig Had No One To Step Forward. But Then, Antonio Llopis Sr., A Veteran Of World War II, Courageously Stepped Out And Engaged In Battle.

Through His Bravery And Skill, Llopis Emerged Victorious, And As A Result, The Part Of Natonin That Was Contested Was Integrated Into Barlig.
