When Barbara Ann did win the slalom race on February 11th on the slopes of the Mount Teine near Sapporo, it was such a win which could be named "almost in a share with silver medal winner Danièle Debernard - or near-balance", not only due to the margin of 0.02 sec. in the total: Already, after the first leg she was in front to Debernard with 0.03 sec., and - in the same kind - Debernard could win the second leg with a difference of 0.01 sec. (see "Arbeiterzeitung Vienna" from February 12th, 1972, page 14).
I would like to add that a margin of 0.02 sec. in Alpine Skiing Races at Winter Olympics was the smallest margin at that time but later US-racer Picabo Street was victorious with 0.01 sec. ahead Michaela Dorfmeister in 1998, therefore also in Japan. - And in the 2014 Winter Olympics, the female downhill race had a tie between Tina Maze and Dominique Gisin.
