One "s", not two

Should "Baaskap" be spelled with one "s", as opposed to two? I've only ever seen it spelled with a single "s". It appears to be one of several oddities in the Afrikaans language such as "voorlaier", "maatschappies", "dorps", et al in which the unconventional spelling is the correct one in mainstream usage. --Katangais (talk) 00:50, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Both spellings can be found on Google Books, dating back many years. Would be interesting to see what spelling was favoured by the apartheid ideologues. Park3r (talk) 01:02, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
