original word meaning missing

[edit]
here everything modern that aven can mean is noted down, but what is about the original meaning and origin of this word. I guess its sth like airborne, air, high, birdlike but i dont know for sure so i looked it up, which was not very helpful. The only thing that got at least near the original meaning was a fictional race of bird like entities in a game...  Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:9E8:634C:2000:D940:A0C0:A501:3AB1 (talk) 02:34, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Pitch in rock climbing?

[edit]

One redirect goes to Pitch_(climbing) but the word does not get a mention in that article. As a (former?) rock climber in the UK, I've never heard 'aven' mentioned in that context in over four decades though it's possible it is used elsewhere. However as a UK caver, I'm familiar with it as being a vertical shaft within a cave - which may involve a pitch of rock-climbing to ascend but the word is not used in the sense of 'a pitch'. I note this use (first entry) at https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/aven Geopersona (talk) 09:27, 23 December 2023 (UTC).Reply
