Australian Citizenship Affirmation

[edit]

Apparently this variant that was first recited in public at Galston Park in 1999 is really the Australian Citizenship Affirmation:

As an Australian citizen, I affirm my loyalty to Australia and its people, Whose democratic beliefs I share, Whose rights and liberties I respect, And whose laws I uphold and obey.

According to the Department of Home Affairs website use of this affirmation is encouraged by school students and members of the general public including on such occasions Harmony Day, Refugee Week, Australian Citizenship Day (17 September) and Australia Day (26 January) [1][2].

How about we go ahead and rename this article "Australian Citizenship Pledge" instead?
