Insufficient pedantry

[edit]

Shouldn't the article note the etymology of the term, viz., from Skt. aśva and medha?

[edit]

In the section “Similar sacrifices elsewhere”, immediately after the sentence:

“The Ashvamedha is the clearest evidence preserved, but vestiges from Latin and Celtic traditions allow the reconstruction of a few common attributes.”

please insert:

“A 2026 comparative study places the Ashvamedha alongside Han Chinese and Eurasian steppe traditions in which the royal horse functioned as a cosmic intermediary linking kingship with cosmic order.”[1]

The wording is explicitly attributed to the study and supplements the existing comparison with other royal horse-sacrifice traditions. Jan788778 (talk) 06:09, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
