We currently write "Livre d'art, a book featuring commentary alongside illustrations". I suspect this is inexact as a description (doesn't that describe a lot of books?) but I don't actually understand the description given in Livre d'art, nor do I independently understand the topic, so I can't improve this description. The short description on that page is "Books in which the illustration is predominant", which may be helpful, but I don't know 🤷 Dingolover6969 (talk) 19:09, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The more I look, the more I fear that a livre d'art is just... an art book, but when French people are talking about it. Originally I thought it was a more specific/historical subgenre. I am concerned that it can't really be merged to coffee table book, though, because there's an emphasis on pocket editions that are not for display. They are also clearly not photo books. I'm not sure what to make of it. ~ le 🌸 valyn (talk) 23:51, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I should note here that most of them seem to me, from manual inspection, to be referring to the coffee table book/media tie-in publications sense, in case that helps someone. Dingolover6969 (talk) 19:14, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I merged the content I'd written to coffee table book, where I think it fits fairly well and am content with it. At this time I don't have much interest in working on it further; if I did, I'd probably start by adding in more material about the broader concept of the coffee table book, since there are some interesting histories of that object. ~ le 🌸 valyn (talk) 23:45, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Probably the best way to do it is to make four redirect pages that all go to appropriate places on the coffee table book page, and call them the permutations of "art{ |}book ({video game|movie} tie-in)". Then you use the automated gadget to fix the incoming links to one of those pages (or another as appropriate). This will give us maximum forward-going flexibility about where everything ends up and also how we spell the term. Dingolover6969 (talk) 11:51, 11 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
