Árd Fheis
[edit]The proper term is Árd Fheis, not Ardfheis. Feis is the Irish / Gaelic for festival or gathering and Árd means high. There is no English substitute and an anglicised version should not be usedCoolavokig 09:57, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- You are incorrect, the Irish word Ard (meaning high) has no fada (diacritic) on it. See www.irishdictionary.ie for this. Snappy56 (talk) 06:42, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

- The single word spelling is the correct form in Irish orthography, and the two-word form is a mistake based on applying the logic of English orthography to an Irish word.
- The rules on hyphenation of compound words "ard-" in Irish are roughly this: a hyphen is used when 1. the word is a proper noun so that both terms should be capitalized as in "Ard-Aifreann" or 2. when the second word begins with the letter "d", as in "ard-deagánach", 3. when there is more than one prefix "ard-íonmhatamaitic". Otherwise, it should be one word: "ardeaglais", "ardfheis".
