Apicata's status

There's an inconsistency between this page and Sejanus's page. Apicata's page asserts: "Apicata was the estranged wife of Sejanus, freedman and confidant of the Roman Emperor Tiberius, r. 14-37 AD. While it is certain that Sejanus was a freedman, the status of Apicata is only speculative. The name is probably Greek word ἀπεοικώς, meaning 'unfit' or 'unreasonable.'[1] Freedpeople kept their slave names as their cognomen. [2] In Roman Italy, Greek names, especially those with derogatory connotations, generally indicate former-slave status, even without other indications of status. Given that Sejanus was himself a freedman, it is reasonable to believe that Apicata was as well."

Sejanus' page implies that he was born into the equestrian order.

Are there any citations for the claim that Sejanus was a freedman?

fwiw I've reverted this change to the lede. The bits about Apicata's social status are interesting, but not sourced appropriately (sourcing to a Liddel & Scott smacks of original research), and are in any case not information appropriate to a lede.
