Edit request: name the studio behind the aerobes' AI (2021 Tate commission)

COI disclosure: I am a co-founder and part-owner of Sitara Systems and am uncompensated for editing. I have a financial conflict of interest, so I am not editing the article directly — I'm asking an uninvolved editor to review the following.

The gap: The paragraph on the 2021 In Love With the World Hyundai Commission says Yi's studio worked "in collaboration with numerous technical specialists" but names none. Independent sources identify the studio that created the aerobes' autonomous behaviour.

Requested change — please change the end of the In Love With the World paragraph from:

"...before rejoining the biosphere the artist devised as their environment."

to:

"...before rejoining the biosphere the artist devised as their environment. The autonomous behaviour of the aerobes was developed by Sitara Systems, a Las Vegas–based creative technology studio and one of the project's technical collaborators, which built an artificial-life simulation giving each machine its own goals and behavioural traits."

(In the article the Tate citation can reuse the existing reference named ":0" rather than duplicating.)

On due weight: this is not a routine vendor credit — the autonomous-AI system was the element independent juries singled out. The work received Fast Company 2022 Innovation by Design honors in two categories (Experimental — honorable mention; Experience Design — finalist), an SEGD Global Design Award, and selection in Communication Arts, with Sitara's artificial-life system as the substance recognized (Fast Company: https://www.fastcompany.com/90771042/experimental-innovation-by-design-2022 and https://www.fastcompany.com/90771039/experience-design-innovation-by-design-2022). Naming the principal technical collaborator in one neutral sentence is therefore proportionate. (Physical fabrication of the aerobes was by a separate firm, so this is specifically the AI/behaviour contribution.)

Realizing that I have a COI, I would like to submit an edit request to mention the firm that designed the artificial intelligence behind Anicka Yi's In Love With The World installation.

Requested change — please change the end of the In Love With the World paragraph from:

to:

"...before rejoining the biosphere the artist devised as their environment. The artificial intelligence behind the aerobes' behavior was developed by Sitara Systems, who gave each machine its own goals, behavioral schemata, and personality traits using artificial life techniques."

 Not done The proposed change is not supported by the provided references. All I see in the first reference is "Aerobe Behaviour Design and Development: Sitara Systems, Las Vegas" and in the second one, "Anicka Yi: In Love With the World / Sitara Systems". This does not describe "[giving] each machine its own goals, behavioral schemata, and personality traits using artificial life techniques." Is there a different reference that can be used to support the proposed text? Spencer^T•C 21:47, 21 August 2026 (UTC)

Thanks - I have sources with the specific support you're asking for. The technical description is documented in the peer-reviewed SIGGRAPH 2022 Art Paper on the system (Proc. ACM Comput. Graph. Interact. Tech. 5(4), 2022, doi:10.1145/3533388). The paper describes the work as involving "technical development of simulation by Sitara Systems" and details the artificial life simulation of the two aerobe species whose movement is driven by internal motivations. This paper was authored by myself and my Sitara colleague Sadiya Akasha, which is why I had previously removed it as a source, as I felt that the Tate and Fast Company references better carry the independent credit and independent recognition. I tightened the sentence to mirror exactly what the sources say (the earlier "personality traits" wording is removed). Revised:

"...before rejoining the biosphere the artist devised as their environment. The aerobes' autonomous behaviour was developed by Sitara Systems, a Las Vegas technology studio, which built an artificial-life simulation of two aerobe species driven by their own internal motivations."
