Clue at which is clearly unreliable (Coldstream, not Coldstream Guards!). The ODNB says Mearns taught in Maidenhead, after RGS in Newcastle. Credible that he met Annie at that time, and later married her at Maidenhead. Great Marlow which was was his first placement as a minister is not far from Maidenhead.
