The source does not corroborate what is in the article

[edit]

The sixth source, History of New Orleans, by John Smith Kendall (1922) is the rationale behind the following insertions.

After his death, Dimitry was established as an American hero and local legend.
The War of 1812 broke out and Dimitry joined as a private and assisted Captain Frio Delabostris's company, Second Cavaliers, Louisiana Militia. He participated in the Battle of New Orleans assisting General Andrew Jackson, and became an American hero and local legend.
Due to his contributions in the war, Dimitry remains an American hero and local legend.

Here is a link to Kendall's chapter 6, pp.91-109. Andrea Dimitry is not mentioned whatsoever.

François Delabostrie appears to have served as a PVT, and not as a CAPT, just like fellow resident Andrea Dimitry.

Can a reliable secondary source be used, and added to the article, as this is hagiography that is lacking credible sourcing.Keith H99 (talk) 17:45, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Dimitry is mentioned in Kendall's "History of New Orleans" volume 3. However, I do not have access to the full source to verify the statement made. Note that I did not add this, I found it in the article and left it as is, just moved it up. Trabzonluyuz-rumuz-elhamdulillah (talk) 17:55, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is what is on page 1103.
His great-grandfather, Andrea Dimitry, was a Greek of noble birth, born on the Island of Hydra in the Greek Archipelago, and came to America in 1794, settling at New Orleans. He served under the Ameri-can flag during the War of 1812, and was one of the soldiers under General Jackson at the battle of New Orleans. He died in New Orleans in 1852. Andrea Dimitry married Mariana Celeste Dragon. Her father, Michael Dragon, was also of Greek birth, born in 1739, but had come to Louisiana during the period of Spanish ownership.
I think the existing text should be removed, given it does not tie back to the source.Keith H99 (talk) 17:58, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I removed it, thanks for verifying! Trabzonluyuz-rumuz-elhamdulillah (talk) 19:04, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

It would appear that he served in the 2nd Louisiana militia, commanded by Captain Zenon Cavallier. Roosevelt has them has as having a strength of 176 men. They were routed by the British on the Right Bank. Keith H99 (talk) 23:24, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Fcis Delabostrie does appear on a muster roll, as does Andre Dimitry. Keith H99 (talk) 10:08, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
This was on the website
The records of the United States War Department show that Dimitry served under the American flag in the War of 1812 as a private in Captain Frio Delabostries’ company, 2d (Cavaliers) Louisiana Militia. He enlisted December 16, 1814, and served two months and twenty-five days. Dimitry served with Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. This particular battle is well-recalled among Dimitry’s descendants.
This comment from Steve Frangos, published on the website "The National Herald" in 2018, and appearing in a newspaper in 2005 is standalone, and needs verification against primary sources.Keith H99 (talk) 10:38, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
This seems to be repeated almost ad verbatim in "du Bellet, L. P. (1907). Some prominent Virginia families (Vol. 4). J. P. Bell Company" (link:https://archive.org/details/someprominentvir04pecq/page/166/) where it's stated that: "The records of the War Department show that he was a private, in Capt. Frio Delabostris' company (second Cavaliers), Louisiana Militia. He enlisted Dec. 16, and served two months and twenty-five days". Also, may I ask why "It was mis-reported in his obituary" that he was awarded land? I cannot find any more information about it. Trabzonluyuz-rumuz-elhamdulillah (talk) 18:13, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
