2025 Revisions

I've made an attempt to engage in some general improvements of the page, starting with reworking the whole history section into something more coherent. I've started to add some better sources but people are welcome to include some additional ones, I'm finding that anything before the return of the league in 2022 the only reliable sources I can get are from the league itself. I've thought about deleting the season-by-season stuff or moving it to its' own page, which might make the whole thing come across as less clumsy. preschooler@heart 19:48, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi. RE:

• "only reliable sources I can get are from the league itself". As you know, this isn't ideal. If the league's own website is the only source, then any related content here should be quite short. Wikipedia (and this article) shouldn't be a republisher or mirror of the org's website.
• "deleting the season-by-season stuff or moving it to its' own page". Personally, for the reasons noted above (and WP:NOTSTATS), I would favour deleting or heavily summarising much of the "season by season" stuff (it is not Wikipedia's role to act as a NOTSTATS directory of every match/result from these amateur leagues). I would not favour moving the "season by season" stuff to its own article or articles (when that was previously the case, these "season" articles were entirely uncited - and failed WP:NSEASON and WP:NEVENT; The only remaining 2011 IAFL season article is effectively entirely uncited - and if it were cited, would largely be a mirror of whatever non-independent/primary source it replicated.)

Put simply: Short (ideally better-cited) text is better than excessive minutiae (mirrored/uncited) text. IMO. Guliolopez (talk) 20:42, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

In line with that, I've made a decent amount of cuts and adjustments today to hopefully bring this page more into an overall alignment with Wikipedia standards. What stats and info remain are largely corroborated using the Eirball, Gaelic Gridiron, and American Football International pages. I decided to cut the list of defunct teams; Eirball has a decent amount of info that could be cited but if so it should probably be spun out into a list page anyways. I also cut the whole largely-uncited section of league summaries, if someone wants to go back and rescue that it should probably be spun off into a standalone page; for this page I think the list of teams and champions tables should suffice. In light of that, I'm getting rid of the September 2024 issue tags, as they pertain to a very different version of this article, but if anyone has any additional concerns, they can give the current version a review and apply new tags. preschooler@heart 21:40, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi. Personally I think the article now looks a lot better. And is improved by the removal of the excessive (almost impossible to read and "can't see wood for trees") WP:NOTSTATS "result of almost every game in every season" content. Certainly having the 2008 IAFL season title redirect to a more general WP:USEPROSE narrative section on the 2000s as a whole seems much more in keeping with project scope/tone/intent. I do note that, while I've "fixed" some of them, there's at least one redirect link to a "defunct teams" section that no longer exists. And so the Belfast Bulls redirect may need a review. Otherwise, I have to say, that the article is now in much better shape. And largely agree with the cleanup hatnote removals... Guliolopez (talk) 14:46, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
