Missing information
[edit]This article has virtually nothing about post-Renaissance. All the monumental altarpieces of the counter-reformation, baroque, rococo, classicism, 20th century etc. have not been debated. Some of the many, many, many famous examples are:
- Bernini's Ecstasy of Saint Teresa
- Rubens' altar in Santa Maria in Vallicella
- Altar of St. Ignatius in the Church of the Gesù
- High altar of the Basilica in the Escorial
- Wieskirche
- Asamkirche
This list could be nearly endlessly expanded. Check articles on Baroque churches in Bohemia, Spain, Belgium, Italy, France, Bavaria, Austria, South America. Plenty of good examples to be found there.
