Should X also be classified as an alt-tech platform for now? The German parties SPD (Social Democrats), Die Linke (The Left) and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Greens) have left this platform because X would support political desinformation.^[1] ~2026-27991-15 (talk) 10:20, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-27991-15 I think we would need to find a reliable source that describes X as an alt-tech platform, which is not the case for the source you linked. I've found two sources that might support something like this: describes it as "something ideologically alt-tech adjacent, and yet institutionally unique"; is specifically about Brazil. I'm not sure if that website itself is a reliable source, but Viktor Chagas is an associate professor in a field relevant to this.

I don't think that's enough to include it in the list, but I think a paragraph in the article about X's relation to the alt-tech sphere would be an appropriate addition. Jcuhfehl (talk) 12:10, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

To the user who has edited the lead of the article, you will need to provide a citation if you want to claim that alt-tech simply refers to "alternative" -- as opposed to "alt-tech", which seems to be the widely understood meaning across the article. The citation listed at the end of the claim you modified carries proof of this:

> Not all communities that have been deplatformed and found other ways to exist online should be considered alt-tech [...] We use the alt-tech term to refer to platforms that offer a promise of uncensored speech, which exist specifically to give a space for far-right, nationalist, racist, or extremist points of view, and which harbor a broad sense of grievance that speech has been “censored” for failure to be “politically correct.”
