Excision.

This Wikipedia article is bloated. Some of it is full of sections exclusively describing Ustaše atrocities which is fine...in a page on the Ustaše. I think some explanation of what was going on is fine of course but when you have sections that do not even reference Stepinac I think it goes too far. We should consider getting rid of those parts (If you want to preserve the language and it is not already present in the page about the Ustaše then move it there.). not mentioning Croatia in the lead

@Vanjagenije @Peacemaker67 and may be missing the forest from the trees - this person is generally described as a Croatian archbishop and was notable in that context. We don't have to refer to specifically the ethnicity, but mentioning this general adjective would be appropriate because that's what the sources do, it's completely normal.

Dropping it won't just cause the nationalists in Croatia to throw a hissy fit. Rather, anyone who's aware that the source of this person's notability is being the main Croatian cleric during World War II and the post-war period in Yugoslavia might raise an eyebrow, they could very well think that we're burying the lede.

On the other hand, the less informed readers are not well served by us only using specialized terms like "Ustaše" and "Independent State of Croatia", it requires more work from them to understand any of this up front. Obviously, it's great if we can make someone who landed here go read about all these other topics as well, but then there's also a risk that they just become overwhelmed and give up, and then we've failed.

Heck, for young people, even just the mention of Yugoslavia could be considered too specialized, because that hasn't been a current geographical reference for thirty years now.

All of this is contrary to the guideline at WP:ASTONISH. We should avoid editorial choices that cause more work for everyone.

Aloysius Viktor Stepinac (Croatian: Alojzije Viktor Stepinac, 8 May 1898 – 10 February 1960) was a Croatian Catholic prelate.
