radio broadcaster?

Does anyone else find the article title a bit odd and a bit of an Americanism? I personally would not refer to him as a radio broadcaster but a talkback host. That's what he's notable for. Has this been discussed before? TarnishedPath^talk 09:53, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

The below line is incorrect.

"Jones's judge-alone trial commenced in the District Court of New South Wales on 3 August 2026 before Judge Glenn Walsh."

Jones is being tried in the Local Court of NSW. Given that the District Court is an intermediate court (and the appellate court for the Local) this is an important distinction. It appears this has arisen, as the original writer may have looked up the Downing Centre and seen that it shows the District Court first, not realising that the Downing Centre hosts both the Local Court and the District Court.

This mistake could have also been made, as the title holder for judges in the local court was recently changed from magistrate to judge.

It also makes the "judge-alone" part reductive, as the Local Court does not host jury trials. By mentioning that the matter is occurring in the local court, it follows without saying that the matter is before a judge only.

Per the above, the line such should be changed to:

"Jones's trial commenced in the Local Court of New South Wales on 3 August 2026 before Judge Glenn Walsh at the Downing Centre."

alternatively

@Crazyfroggers, I'm thinking it may be much simpler to state that Jones's trial commenced on 3 August 2026 before Judge Glenn Walsh at the Downing Centre. Do we really need our readers to be aware of the differences between local and district courts in order for them to get an understanding of what is going on? Thoughts? I'd tend to agree, but with the caveat that its just switched to:

"Jones's trial commenced on 3 August 2026 in the Local Court of NSW before Judge Glenn Walsh ".

While downing centre is an imporant location, the location is much less important than the actual Court that the matter is proceeding in. Further given the high likelihood of an appeal, be it for evidentiary reasons or potential questions of law that could be put before the Court of Appeal, having the original court stated would help future proof the article to some degree given that it might become a procedural mess. I would also note that specifying the local court of NSW means that the charges therefore aren't strictly indictable.

The length of the case is also notable, as 4 months is a mammoth time for the Local Court, which also makes the fact that it is in the Local Court more important, as such a long hearing is practically unheard of in the Local.
