American?

I came to this article from a BBC news story today (2/Jun/2924 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5115079p53o) via searches and reading multiple articles about him. Of these, only the Wikipedia article described him as 'American-Ivorian'. Most make no mention of America (US of A) at all.
