Changing the introductory sentence?

[edit]

Hello! I just wanted to ask if we should change the first sentence and have a note for the other names instead of listing them all in parentheses, since right now it looks a bit crowded.

Currently, it is: Ableism (/ˈeɪbəlɪzəm/; also known as ablism, disablism [in British English], anapirophobia, anapirism, and disability discrimination) is etc etc

Can we replace it with: Ableism (/ˈeɪbəlɪzəm/) is etc etc

This would make it look cleaner and easier to read imo. Just a suggestion. DocZach (talk) 18:04, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I suppose it could be moved to the etymology section? But it may confuse some people not to have the synonymous terms mentioned at the beginning, especially those who use British English, for example.

Might it be worth adding a section on eugenics?

[edit]

Eugenics and ableism are closely linked, and it would only seem logical to add a section about eugenics. Obviously it has it's own dedicated page, but some text about the relationship between ableism and eugenics could be useful.

Yes, in fact we need to have it in the body if we want to mention it in the lead, see MOS:LEADNOTUNIQUE. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 11:28, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
